Wednesday 20th May
Hi girls! How are you doing?
We finished talking about obligation and prohibition in our last class.(At
least for the moment).
Is there
anything you have
to do today?
What
don’t you need
to do?
What can’t you
do?
·
I have to do the shopping! My husband told me there’s no
milk!
·
I must wash my hair. It looks awful!
·
I don’t have to water the plants. My husband watered them yesterday.
·
I mustn’t forget to tell the kids to finish their homework. They have to do it!
Then, we started talking about our worries.
How
important is it for you to keep fit (do exercise)?
How worried
are you about
your health (the
opposite of ill)?
According to the questionnaire we did in
pairs, we don’t seem
to be very worried about our health. It’s
OK with you because you’re young, but I should! I’m getting on in years (getting old)!
Some of
you are desperately
worried and
unable to sleep about being fat! Don’t do that! It’s equally (the same)
worrying being too thin!
You aren’t worried at all about
watching
too much TV or eating too much junk food.
I’m not
sure if it’s because you don’t watch TV or eat fast food, or because you just don’t care!
These are the useful expressions we learnt:
1. I’m not worried at all
about …
2. She’s a bit worried about
…
3. He’s worried about …
4. They’re very worried about …
5. We’re desperately worried and unable to sleep
about
These served us to learn quantifiers.

And we finished with the song ‘Shower’ by Becky g
Remember that this is an example of ‘slang.’ This way of speaking is colloquial. This is how young people and teenagers speak among them or at home but it isn’t correct.
Why did you laugh when I said ‘tira pa’ llá’ in Spanish and didn’t you laugh at ‘outta’ which is ‘out of’? So, use the ‘English’ you learn in songs with caution (care)!
Remember to prepare some material for ‘Flipped class’, where you become the teachers and we swap (change) with other groups. The topic is ‘summer’. Prepare some materials or games. NO CROSSWORDS OR WORDSEARCHES! You can explain the students what ‘Midsummer’s night’ is and how it’s celebrated in the UK. You can teach them vocabulary related to summer and holidays. You can teach them how to write a postcard to a friend from their holiday resort etc.
And that was it!!!!
